This is just the beginning and these guys, with their million dollar budgets, established brands, teams of experts, and huge marketing budgets will dominate the SERPS and make it near impossible for a bedroom affiliate churning out keyword laden generic affiliate "reviews" (of products they've never used) to compete, which is a good thing IMO.  
If you google “product niche” + “affiliate program” you will pull up many other companies offering affiliate earning opportunities on the internet, with pay outs ranging anywhere from 10% all the way up to 50% sometimes.  
They’ve also been deploying state of the art AI technologies and affiliate marketing strategies to get people to buy more. For example, over 35% of Amazon.com’s revenue is generated by its AI-powered recommendation engine.  
One of the easiest ways to get started with affiliate marketing so you can make more passive income in your business is through the Amazon affiliate program, also known as Amazon Associates.  
Review Sites Are Popular – There are a couple exceptions, but most of these successful Amazon Affiliate Websites are just review sites that give people an idea of what the item is like before they buy.  
If your affiliate site is part of the customer’s research, right before they make a big purchase, your tracking cookie will ensure that you get credit for the sale.  
In simplest terms, the Amazon affiliate program is a platform that allows you to earn commissions for referring people to Amazon through your website or social media.  
The good news, even with very little traffic, you can still get approved to join the Amazon affiliate program.  So long as your site is within the terms of service for Amazon, you can quickly and easily get in.  
I don’t have the exact statistics, but among all the top selling affiliate sites I researched on Flippa and dozens of others that I found during research for my previous NicheHacks post, hardly 10% were actively building email lists or growing their social media following.  
I didn’t pay enough attention at the time and this is sort of shame on me as an aspiring affiliate marketer but I didn’t pay enough attention to what changed but my understanding and I will update this in due course when I’ve double checked, when I started on Amazon Associates and for the longest time, there were different rates you would get per category, obviously factoring in that different products had different margin levels.  
Chances are people that are ranked really good for your product plus “buyer intent keywords” like “Review” or “Best”, have done their testing and research to find the best affiliate program to promote.  
As a member of the Amazon affiliate program, you could put together a really in-depth comparison of the camera features on each of these leading smartphones and then simply link over to Amazon for whichever one they choose to buy.  
Though a number of companies offer similar programs, Amazon’s affiliate system is the most lucrative, and auto-tagged product links have become a significant part of many online businesses’ revenue.  
If you want to continue to make money online / from affiliate marketing going forward you'll need to step up your game and move away from the bog-standard product review model so many affiliates rely on.  
If you want to build a sustainable, dependable, and long-term business, starting a product review affiliate site that depends solely on Amazon commissions (or solely on any other affiliate network) is the WORST piece of advice anyone can give you.  
It's especially true now that the big media players are finally waking up to affiliate marketing (NYTimes buying WireCutter and SweetHome) and BestReviews (which was already an epic product review site in its self-due to the fact they built their own 10,000 sq. ft testing lab) being acquired by Tronc (owns the LA Times and half a dozen more publications).  
And that’s the beneficial thing about being an Amazon Associate is that you can piggyback off that trust that people have in Amazon and when you go and promote products with your Amazon affiliate links, you know, it’s not like people are clicking through to some shady sort of backwater of the internet, they’re clicking through to just about the biggest site on earth now apart from probably Google, YouTube and Facebook.  
As long as you create a site with content relating to some type of niche, privacy policy, and probably an affiliate disclosure you can apply for the Amazon Associates program and they should approve you.  
The default view here is just a simple list of stuff people bought–sorted by the total number of items ordered. It's a great way to see which product sells the most. In my ordered items report, you can see that waterproof pet seat covers are were super-hot.  
And people get caught out for all sorts of crazy things like apparently, you’re not supposed to save an image from Amazon of a product, so you’ve got … I mean either you got to download and edit it a little bit so that you could feasibly claim it wasn’t from there or you’re going to find another product that can get you in trouble.  
It’s kind of a bummer that this tab groups text, image, and image+text links together since it’d be an interesting thing to compare, but you can’t win them all. Mostly, it’s a good way to see how your affiliate links are performing compared to your native ads.If you’re a number cruncher and want to do some more detailed analysis, you can also download reports. You'll find the option in the top right corner of the earnings graph.

Amazon Associates is an affiliate program. Because Amazon is one of the biggest retailers in the world, it shouldn’t surprise you that their affiliate program is also one of the biggest in the world. At the time of writing, Amazon Associates is used on 0.8% of all websites (a huge number).  
It’s interesting that it takes a different approach, rather than writing long content, it focuses on a clean layout and video reviews to show people the product they’re testing, racking in 2.3 million monthly viewers.  
You can write a post that is called “What You Need to Build a Rock in’ Home Gym” and then in the post, you describe your favorite barbell and weight plates, the type of bench you like for pressing, your recommended dumbbells, dip belt brand, and power rack.  
In the graph, not only can you see the fees earned each day, but you can also see the clicks you generated and the number of items ordered. At the bottom of the graph, you can see the same data you saw in the fee's summary as well as the total revenue you generated for Amazon and the number of returned items. This view is most useful to check for anomalies. My earnings are up.

Sales and their threshold on the market is an iron fist, their prices and range alone do this as well as brand awareness, so to have an affiliate programmer offering very little is understandable, it does make a nice training ground for new comers.  
Once you’ve selected a niche market to serve, it’s time to find a memorable domain name that is relevant to the products you’ll be marketing, and easy for your future visitors to remember.  
Their associate (affiliate) program is widely used by affiliate marketers and can convert quite well if you know how to market properly. As long as you live within an approved state or country (residents of Arkansas, Colorado, Maine, Minnesota, Missouri, and Rhode Island are not allowed to participate) they aren’t very picky about accepting people into the program.

Conversions on Amazon are high. When you recommend something on your blog or to your list, once people read your review, they are likely to purchase it on Amazon because they don’t have to think about the company – they already trust them.  
I still think there’s good money-making opportunity in Amazon, because it's such a reputable company and most people would prefer to buy from there so their conversion rate is unmatched.  
They’re Great at Upselling Too. Here's the cool thing with Amazon; whatever traffic you send them, you’ll get a percentage of anything they buy there within 24 hours.  
All your email list has to do is send your visitors back to your money-making content and instantly you're increasing the chance of someone buying from your affiliate link.

Amazon Associates is an affiliate program between Amazon (the seller) and you (the advertiser) that gives you a small commission when someone clicks on your link and makes a qualifying purchase.  
But, keep in mind, a higher commission rate doesn’t always lead to more money in your pocket. Justine Grey has a fantastic list of affiliate programs on her site.  
There are some exceptions where you’ll earn more money, such as digital good (mp3, video, etc.) which are set at 10%, but some of them are capped at $1.50, meaning you can’t really earn too much from them, but they will push up your commission rate.  
There are several reasons for this.  First, different product categories pay different commission percentages.  For example, if your niche is video games or consoles, you’ll only earn 2% commissions on items in that category.  
The "reviews" are usually just made up and based on no personal experience in order to net an affiliate commission, which can actually get you sued as some mattress affiliate site owners found out recently.  
So, if someone clicks your link and they come to Amazon and they buy anything that qualifies for a commission or just about anything within 24 hours of getting that cookie put on their computer, you get a commission on that product as well.  
Compared to other affiliate programs and revenue-generating opportunities for your blog, the Amazon Associates commission structure is low.  
If they return to Amazon a week after reading your review, you won’t earn a commission for the sale unless they took the time to add products to their cart when they visited before.  
This means that big affiliate marketers who were selling over 3,131 products per month (an 8.5% commission) might now be making less than half, depending on the commission given to the category their chosen product falls into.  
For certain product categories (as you can refer to the table bel0w) the commission rate you receive will remain constant, whereas for their general products your commission rate can increase up to 8.5%, depending on how much you sell.  
With the Amazon Associates program, you also get a commission on anything else they purchase within 24 hours from clicking on your affiliate link.  
Amazon’s affiliate program really is unique as it allows you to promote physical and digital products while earning commissions for any and every niche you can think of.  While they do have lower commission percentages than other programs, you are still going to most likely want to add some Amazon affiliate program links to your own sites.  
If you put the same amount of time and effort into a more sustainable site you can build something long-term instead of having to start from scratch when the inevitable happens and your traffic and ranking drops or Amazon cut their commission rate again.  
They’re probably on their own special commission rates and everything but for the average Joe, I think Amazon Associates will over time … I don’t know the timeline or the speed but it just gives the impression it’s going to slowly grind the little guy down until basically they’re just not necessary anymore and then I wouldn’t be surprised to see the program shut down.  
I find Amazon to be an excellent affiliate program despite the lower commission rates, and for me has proven to be a very high converting one at that. If you were questioning if you could really make any money being an Amazon Associate, I can assure you it’s entirely possible if you’re smart about it.  
It is your opportunity to promote Amazon.com products on your own sites or anywhere online really and when people follow your link and they buy that product on Amazon, then Amazon will pay you a commission for that sale.  
It's true that Amazon changed its commission structure awhile back and instead of basing your commission rate on the quantity of items you sell; it's now based on the category of the item sold – selling small items still makes sense.  
This means that if a person visits your site to read a blog post you’ve written reviewing a product with an affiliate link to Amazon, you’ll receive an affiliate commission if that visitor makes a purchase as long as it’s within 24 hours.  
An even better strategy is to place that text inside a beautiful and enticing CTA button (super easy to create with AmaLinks Pro!).
